LOS
I am a Lang Opportunity Scholar at Swarthmore College. This program gives me resources and support to design and complete a social action project of my design. My preliminary plans involve empowering high school youth in Los Angeles to engage in the civic process, using a framework of environmental justice.
To help prepare for this project, I worked in the summer of 2008 with Alternatives for Community and Environment, an environmental justice nonprofit in Roxbury, MA. I had an amazing time at ACE helping to put on their biggest annual events (Jammin’ for Justice and EJ in the ‘Hood), blogging, updating the website, meeting new friends, and attending community meetings.
