Tampa Bay winning tonight: no good
The series being tied at 1-1: somewhat good

Fenway Park on May 21st, 2008
It’s been a great baseball season. Since May, I’ve been to Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, and Angel Stadium (the most baseball I’ve ever seen live during a summer). The postseason will be enjoyable because I’ll be rooting hard against the Dodgers, and for the Cubs, Phillies, and Angels. I want the Angels to take it all, and they have a good shot at doing so. They have the best record in the MLB, and K-Rod has been racking up the saves. Even though the Angels haven’t won a playoff game against the Red Sox since two years before I was born, I’m hoping they can score some wins against the Socks across the river from where I lived this summer.

One of the most enjoyable parts of my summer was going to a number of baseball games. I saw two games at Fenway Park, a game at Wrigley Field, and a game at Angel Stadium. I also enjoyed Baseball as America, a traveling exhibit from the Hall of Fame hosted by the Museum of Science. One of the most striking things I noticed was how much smaller and livelier Fenway and Wrigley felt. I think this was mostly because they weren’t surrounded by a massive parking lot.

Roller Derby
My last weekend in Boston was great. It involved a goodbye party with people from work, Mama Mia!, Stick It (the Bring it On of Gymnastics), an all nighter, pancakes, the baseball exhibit at the Museum of Science, a trip to Faneuil Hall, sailing, roller derby, my last Sunday at Grace Church, and almost 40 miles of walking. It was a nice way to end my summer in Boston.

From the OC Register:
“They had the momentum there in the eighth and we haven’t been doing that,” Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia said of Sunday’s winning rally. “They get the big hit and keep adding on.
“They put that damn monkey on the board and the place went nuts.”
I wish I could have seen one of these games live. Hopefully there will be some redemption in the playoffs for the Angels this year. They haven’t beaten the Red Sox in any of their nine postseason games since the 1986 ALCS.

The Red Sox swept the Twins, thanks largely to a Twins reliever ERA of 25.50 in the series. Fun recap of yesterday’s game: http://bostonist.com/2008/07/10/sports_redux_technically_this_count.php

I got a last minute ticket to the Red Sox game tonight. It was an awesome game – I saw Manny hit a homerun over the Green Monster, the Sox rally from behind, and Papelbon get a save.

Coco Crisp charged the mound the other night to start a bench-clearing fight. I was walking within a mile of Fenway Park at the time.
